HR25 @ QPAC
Born a theatre orphan it was only natural for Bec to take to the stage. With a long history in musical theatre that spans over a decade her first musical was in 1998. With lead roles in several youth productions, it was in 2004 that Bec landed her first lead role in a major production at 16 years of age. Playing Dorothy in the Wiz alongside Luke Kennedy (Lion) of the Ten Tenors was a dream come true.
For Harvest Rain Theatre Company’s 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre Bec was asked to revisit the yellow brick road with a rendition of ‘Home’ and ‘Brand New Day’. Backed by a 50-piece orchestra and 80-voice choir the show was nothing short of amazing. Also solo performances from Leisa Barry-Smith, Julie Cotterell, Angel Dormer, Penny Farrow, Justin Geange, Angela Harding, Catherine Heggarty, Belinda Heit, Stefanie Jones, Luke Kennedy and Sarah Punch.

Conversations CD
Produced by Dave Spicer, Mark Smith and Irene Bartlett ‘Conversations’ is a collaborative album that is now released every year. The debut release was in 2010 featuring Bec Laughton singing a heart-breaking rendition of ‘If I Only Had A Brain’. The album showcases 10 amazing young jazz vocalists along side the remarkable Dave Spicer on piano. The idea spawned out of a desire to document the great vocalists that are passing through the QLD condervatorium. During Dave and Irene’s time at the con, numerous vocalists have come in as students and continued on to establish national and international recognition in their field.
